Why
do we need SEMPAC?
Two groups of people - 538 men and women in Washington, D.C. and 148
in Lansing - decide how SEMCO ENERGY operates and how many
jobs it will ultimately provide. Every one of these men and women
entered public office with their own experiences, which may or may
not include knowledge of the utility industry and its complex set
of laws and regulations. |
How
does SEMPAC make a difference?
SEMCO ENERGY employees must have the opportunity to educate
lawmakers about the realities of the company's business. By joining
SEMPAC, you are telling our elected officials that SEMCO
ENERGY wants to be part of the legislative process. Your contributions
don't - and won't - buy votes. They will, however, be used to support
candidates for office who are willing to listen to our concerns on
key legislative matters. |
Do
I have to join?
No. Membership in SEMPAC is entirely voluntary. You
may decide not to contribute without reprisal. SEMCO ENERGY
will not favor or disadvantage anyone by reason of the amount contributed
or the decision whether or not to contribute. |
Who
decides which candidates to support?
The SEMPAC Executive Committee establishes the disbursement
strategy and guidelines based on recommendations from the SEMPAC
Steering Committee and advice from the Director of Government Affairs.
Funds are disbursed on a bipartisan basis based on a candidate's committee
assignments, political philosophy, voting record, understanding of
the utility industry and whether or not SEMCO ENERGY is a constituent.
